Odorous gaseous such as ammonia and hydrogen sulphide produced by anaerobic bacteria are emitted when palm oil mill effluent (POME) is treated via digestion. The Department of Environment (DOE) under the jurisdiction Air Division has proposed an odour emission limit 12,000OUm<sup>-3</sup> at source sample for Malaysian mills recently. objective this paper to investigate concentration treatment area within which practise different types common POME systems Open Ponds Treatment, Covered Lagoon Digester Tank. grabbed samples from respective plants were assessed according MS 1963:2007 Quality – determination dynamic olfactometry. In addition in-situ surrounding project sites have been measured based on enhanced procedures adapted VDI3940 Grid Method. survey results showed that Treatment was having highest while Tank lowest due quarantine factor. None observations comply DOE proposal. Thus, alternative approaches need be counter in legislation drafting so millers compliance could ensured avoid public sensory annoyance complaints.
